There's a man who parks his truck across from Pop's condo building every morning in the pre-dawn hours. He serves up some of the best jook (a.k.a., congee or rice porridge) I've ever had -- and I've had a lot! Pop taught me how to say, "Put everything in it" -- which results in a bowl jammed full of sliced pork, liver, heart and other unidentifiable bits, plus one raw egg. Chris, on the other hand, learned how to say, "Put in egg and pork only, please."
